West Recruiting Notebook

A couple prospects commit, some are bursting on to the scene and others are racking up offers in this week's West Recruiting Notebook...

  • One of the fastest rising prospects out West is Fontana (Calif.) A.B. Miller linebacker Reshawn Hooker, who's added seven offers in the past week, with Oregon State, Fresno State and Colorado preceded by new offers from New Mexico State, San Jose State, Nevada and Purdue.

  • It's still a good 20 months before he can sign a letter-of-intent, but Concord (Calif.) De La Salle linebacker Michael Hutchings is racking up the offers.  The reigning California Sophomore of the Year grabbed three offers this week, from Michigan, UCLA and Oregon State and they join Cal and USC in offering him.

  • Temecula (Calif.) Chaparral linebacker Joe Robinson is in double-digits now with new offers from SMU and Mississippi State.

  • UCLA, Cal and Arizona held camps last weekend and Arizona State and USC will be holding camps this coming weekend.

  • BYU had a big weekend, landing three prospects, two from Florida and one from California.  The Golden State product is Austin Hoyt, a 6-7 defensive end from Jackson (Calif.) Argonaut.  The Cougars beat in-state rival Utah for Hoyt, as well as former Mountain West foe Air Force.

  • The Cougars didn't stop with just the 2012 class.  They also got a verbal from Beaverton (Calif.) Aloha tackle Braydon Kearsley, a 6-5, 270-pound offensive tackle in the 2013 class, who was one of the premier prospects at the Oregon Nike Camp.

  • Washington State snagged their quarterback in this class in Longmont (Colo.) Silver Creek passer Austin Apodaca.

Michael Hutchings - LB - Concord (Calif.) De La Salle
Get used to seeing this name, as the 2013 elite prospect is starting to get the offers that will only be the beginning.  The top sophomore in California this past season, Hutchings already has five offers and will likely be in double digits by the time the season starts.

Matt Morin - QB - Temecula (Calif.) Chaparral
With a number of quarterbacks now off the board out West, Morin figures to poise himself as the next quarterback in line for several schools.  He's got a trio of offers and had a very good showing at UCLA's 1-Day Camp on Sunday.  He'll camp at USC this weekend.

Mario Yakoo - OL - Spring Valley (Calif.) Steele Canyon
Yet another linemen in a loaded class in California, Yakoo went to the Arizona camp and was dominant throughout and landed an offer from the Wildcats.  He also had a good performance at the Cal camp on Sunday and will be at USC and UCLA's Linemen Camp in the next two weekends.

Sawyer Powell - LB - Richland (Wash.)
Powell had the top SPARQ score at the Nike Combine last weekend and then turned in an MVP performance the next day at the Oregon Nike Camp.  Oregon State then offered him a scholarship earlier this week.

  • Fontana (Calif.) Summit running back Jamaal Williams was offered by BYU, New Mexico State and Idaho this week

  • Elk Grove (Calif.) Cosumnes Oaks cornerback Marcus Rios was offered by Fresno State but remains a solid commit to Boise State

  • Upland (Calif.) receiver Kenny Lawler, an Arizona State commit, was offered by Oregon State.

  • Compton (Calif.) Dominguez offensive lineman Lacy Westbrook was offered by Washington State, putting him well into double-digits.
  • San Jose (Calif.) Leland safety Christopher Santini got his eighth offer, from New Mexico State.

  • Westlake Village (Calif.) Oaks Christian cornerback Ishmael Adams got his 15th offer, from Vanderbilt.

  • Arroyo Grande (Calif.) safety Seth Jacobs got his 15th offer, this one from Oregon.

  • Elk Grove (Calif.) offensive tackle Steven Moore was offered by Nevada after Arizona did earlier this week.

  • Los Angeles (Calif.) Dorsey receiver Ross Stribling was offered by Wyoming.

  • Fresno (Calif.) San Joaquin Memorial running back Chris Brown has added an offer from Washington.

  • Chatsworth (Calif.) Sierra Canyon receiver Julian Brooks has picked up offers from Arizona State and Colorado, giving him five in all.

  • Perris (Calif.) Citrus Hill linebacker Darnell Murray landed his first offer, from Utah State.

  • Murrieta (Calif.) Vista Murrieta 2013 safety Su'a Cravens has added an offer from North Carolina.
