BMOC 7on7 Recruiting Notebook

A look at some of the news and notes on the recruiting trail from the BMOC 7on7 Tournament, including updates on Kodi Whitfield and Jeremy Castro...

With several of the West's top prospects on hand for the BMOC 7on7 Tournament, a lot of news was flying out from the recruiting trail, including a Scout 300 receiver naming a leader, and his teammate, a Pac-12 commit, getting a big national offer.

  • The biggest news was Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco receiver Bryce Treggs naming Cal as his leader.  It's not too big of a surprise- his father Brian is one of Cal's alltime leading receivers, and Treggs has been partial to Cal, but he's consistently stated he was wide open.  A week ago, he said he was favoring Cal, Stanford and Notre Dame and on Thursday, admitted Cal was the leader.

  • Treggs's teammate, center Beau Boyster, has been a commit to Arizona for some time.  Thursday, he said that the Rose Bowl champions, TCU, had offered.  But he remains solid to the Wildcats.

  • Another commit, Los Angeles (Calif.) Loyola cornerback Chaz Anderson, who verballed to Boise State this month, added an offer Thursday morning from San Diego State.

  • Chatsworth (Calif.) Sierra Canyon quarterback Tyler Stewart got his first in-state offer earlier this week from San Jose State.

  • Murrieta (Calif.) Vista Murrieta linebacker Jeremy Castro said that Oregon and Oklahoma still lead for him, with UCLA right behind.

  • Los Angeles (Calif.) Loyola receiver Kodi Whitfield, who was there but didn't play because of a foot injury, and was in a boot, said that UCLA, Stanford, Boise State, Washington and Arizona State were standing out for him.

  • West Covina (Calif.) linebacker Justen Meaders has offers from Arizona State and Washington, and will camp at UCLA on Saturday.

  • Woodland Hills (Calif.) Taft receiver Mike Thomas, an UnderArmour All-American in 2011, didn't sign in February and will be going to Prep School to play the 2011 season.

  • West Covina (Calif.) safety Chris Solomon is holding offers from Arizona, Arizona State, Colorado and Nevada and will be camping at USC's Rising Stars next week.

  • South Gate (Calif.) South East running back Robert Lewis, a commit to SMU, picked up an offer from Idaho earlier this week.
