"I was really excited to receive an offer from Washington State. They're my first Pac-12 offer, they have a strong up and coming program," said Mathis. "I am also very excited about San Diego State, They have a great program and I have a strong connection with coaching staff. I could definitely see myself there for the next four years. Right now, Washington State and San Diego State are my top two picks. I will mostly likely take an official visit to both schools."
Mathis received his offer from San Diego State shortly after he attended their camp.
"I hoped my performance at their camp would result in an offer. I learned a lot for their coaching staff while I was there. My cousin also goes there and she loves it. San Diego State is a great school," said Mathis.
All of the positive momentum over the last couple weeks has made Mathis's offer list increase from one to four. Hawaii was the first school to over Mathis.
"My first offer was from Hawaii and I would love to live in Hawaii," said Mathis.
"I just got back from being at Oregon's camp. I felt confident about my performance there, I actually received an award for being the most outstanding defensive back," said Mathis. "I like Oregon a lot because of their facilities, also some of my family is from there. I went and visited the school as a sophomore too, and I loved it. So nice, and I like being close to home.
He also attended camp at UCLA.
"I was at UCLA's camp a couple weekends ago. They said they liked what they saw, but because I didn't play safety last year and I played quarterback, I don't have any film on me playing safety. So they want to watch me play in person more," said Mathis. "I really liked their campus. I could see myself playing there. My whole family went there, my cousin played there and then played in the NFL, Eric Turner. And his son Eric Turner Jr. plays there now and also my aunt plays soccer there. I think UCLA will be my next offer, but I will just have to what and see."
Mathis discussed what he is looking for in a school.
"I want to go where I fit-in, and find out what the coaching staff is like. When I am visiting schools, I am mainly looking to see if I will fit into the campus. Also find out if I have a chance to go in and play as a freshman, somewhere I can go and get a really good education and play football," said Mathis.
Mathis is planning on Utah's camp in the next couple weeks, which will conclude his trips for the summer. After his trip to Utah, Mathis will be switching his focus to preparing for his debut at safety for Buena.
