And Ankou enjoyed his time in California.
"It was a good experience," said Ankou. "California has nice weather and I really enjoyed it. It gets nice where I'm from, but really humid, so the weather in California was really nice."
Ankou got his first offer from UCLA earlier in the spring, and was determined to show the UCLA coaches at their Lineman Camp that he was worthy of the offer.
"With UCLA, from the way they offered me, they put a lot of trust in what I'm capable of doing, so I wanted to do my best and compete, and get to know the coaches," said Ankou. "I thought I did pretty well there."
Ankou said he'd like to hit a couple more schools this summer before returning to his senior year.
"This summer, I want to be able to get to know the coaches at the schools I'm looking at," said Ankou. "I might take a couple more trips, so we'll see how it goes, and if the time is manageable."
Ankou said that most schools see him as a defensive end but could move him back.
"Right now, it's defensive end, but with the possibility of outside linebacker," said Ankou. "Defensive end is really where I'm better at. But I'm open to where the team needs me."
