Halverson's Big Spring Opens Doors

Portland (Ore.) Grant linebacker Daniel Halverson has been stellar on the camp circuit and several Pac-12 schools have caught notice...

Portland (Ore.) Grant linebacker Daniel Halverson has been impressive all spring and summer, from his all-combine honors at the U.S. Army Combine, to his Nike Camp MVP performance at Stanford.

Halverson will again be on a big national stage this week when he represents his home state at The Opening by Nike in nearby Beaverton.

And he's hoping to see his recruitment pick up.

"I have offers from Air Force, Yale and Portland State," said Halverson. "It's definitely picked up a bit. More coaches came through during the spring. UCLA came through, Stanford is really interested, Cal came by and Washington is interested too."

Halverson thinks an in-state school could be next to offer.

"I think probably Oregon State will offer," said Halverson. "I like them a lot."

Halverson also said that Washington is a school he's seriously interested in.

"Coach Nuss (Doug Nussmeier) came by and that's a school I like a lot. If Washington offered, they'd be hard to turn down."

Halverson also plays on offense, but said that defense is where his future is.

"Personally, I'd say defense is where I'll play, but some like me as an athlete," said Halverson. Academically, he's in solid shape, with a 3.3 and took the SAT and ACT this spring.

Last fall, Halverson had 100 tackles, 10 for loss and two sacks and caught 23 passes for 416 yards and four touchdowns.
