Kelenna Azubuike, 6-5 SR SG/SF, Tulsa (Okla.) Victory Christian, flashed some of his great talent in just the controlled scrimmages of the first two days at the Nike Camp in Indianapolis.
Azubuike, who said he averaged 38 points a game in his high school junior season, is a strong slasher with a great body and quickness. The talk about him going straight to the NBA, is premature, though. His outside jumper goes down quite often, but his stroke is long, and he could definitely improve his handle and mid-range game before making a jump to the pros.
Commonly ranked among the top 30 players in the country, Azubuike said that the NBA is an option in the back of his mind. "But I'm not really thinking about that right now. I'm concentrating on high school."
Azubuike said that Illinois, Kansas, UCLA, Kentucky, Oklahoma and Stanford currently top his list of favorite schools. With only one school on that list close to his home in Oklahoma, Azubuike confirmed that staying close doesn't matter to him. "I'll go where the situation is best for me, whether that's close to home or far away," he said.
The high-scoring wing said he'll probably wait until spring to make his decision. "I'm not sure when I'll decide but it will probably be spring. I want to take all five of my trips. I'd like to have all the information I can before I make a decision."
When it comes to UCLA, Azubuike said he doesn't know much about the school, but likes what he's heard. "I started thinking about UCLA when they came to watch me play," he said. "I then started finding out about the school and I like what I heard about it. I definitely want to take a trip there."
Azubuike said he has a 3.8 GPA and a 1080 SAT score.
