Lewis Not Closing Any Doors

South Gate (Calif.) South East athlete Robert Lewis says that his commitment to SMU hasn't wavered one bit.

"My verbal is still good with SMU," said Lewis.

But that doesn't mean he's not still listening to schools.

"I'm still committed, but I'm still keeping my options open," said Lewis.

An early commit to the Mustangs, Lewis said a handful of schools are still checking in on him.

"I still like Oregon, Colorado is recruiting me big, San Diego State and Coach (Tony) White and Oregon State is still talking to me, and so is Washington and Arizona. And UCLA, I talked to Coach (Mike) Johnson. He said when I went to their camp, they wanted to offer me but they're a higher school so Coach Johnson said if I get my SAT up, they'll offer me. And USC, I've talked to Coach (Kennedy) Pola a lot too."

Still, SMU is going to be tough to pry Lewis away from.

"When Gabe (Gabriel Marks) and Kahlil (Pettway), committed there, it definitely made me more comfortable and made my commitment a little stronger because there I'll have a couple guys I know."

And assistant coach Adrian Klemm also played a big role in his decision.

"In a way, Coach Klemm is the main reason I committed," said Lewis. "He's a real guy, he keeps it real with you. He's honest and not always telling you what you want to hear. That's why I like him."

Lewis said he wants to take all five visits, but knows of only one definite.

"I talked to Coach Klemm about setting up one and I will be going there during the season," said Lewis. "I've only been to SMU for the Badger 7on7, but I didn't get a full tour and we really didn't get to look at the school. So I'm going to go back."
