Lutui Gives UCLA a Good Friday

Hiva Lutui, the four-star offensive guard from Euless (Texas) Trinity, will return to his roots for college, committing to UCLA on Friday...

Euless (Texas) Trinity offensive lineman Hiva Lutui left California before he started high school, but never imagined he'd end up back in the Golden State.

On Friday, he made that possible, committing to UCLA.

"I've always been a fan of the Bruins," said Lutui. "The campus was just down the road from my parents. When I left, I never had a real plan, but now it's all working out for me to go back there."

The four-star guard, ranked ninth nationally by Scout.com, chose the Bruins over a host of offers, including Michigan, Oregon State, Iowa, Texas A&M and Utah.

"The education there is really good and I just wanted to be close to my family so they could watch me play," said Lutui.

Lutui's cousin, Isaiah Folasa, committed to the Bruins last month.

"When I went out there on my unofficial visit, I was there during the camp and my cousin put in the work and they offered him," said Lutui. "It will be cool to play with him."

Lutui said he wanted to make his commitment before the season started so he could focus on getting Trinity back to a state title, something he won as a sophomore.

"It was pretty important for me to decide early, that way people weren't trying to ask where I'm going to go during the season," said Lutui. "Now I'm just focusing on Trinity football."

Lutui said he called defensive line coach Inoke Breckterfield to tell him.

"I called Coach Inoke and told him the news and he was celebrating on the phone," said Lutui. "I'm going to talk with Coach (Rick) Neuheisel later today."

Lutui said he still plans to take some official visits come fall, and plans to visit Utah, Oregon State, Iowa and UCLA officially.
