Prospect Preview: Week One

The prep football season kicks off in full effect this weekend around the West Coast, with a marquee matchup in the Inland Empire between two perennial powerhouses and a national showcase involving a Southern California team...

Game of the Week: Mission Viejo at Don Bosco Prep at 4:00 p.m. EST
The #1 ranked team by FoxSports.com/Scout.com, Don Bosco Prep, featuring four members of the Scout 300, host perennial SoCal power Mission Viejo, ranked 11th nationally. The Diablos are led by one of the best offensive lines in the region, headed by three-star Colby Cyburt, a major UCLA target and Austin Maass (San Diego State commit), and they'll have their work cut out for them opening holes for quarterback Alex Bridgford and USC commit Jahleel Pinner and newcomer Buzzy Yokoyama against a defensive front led by five-star defensive lineman Darius Hamilton.

Ventura St. Bonaventure at Corona Centennial at 7:30 on FoxSportsWest.com
Two of the top programs in the West meet in a huge matchup that could pay major dividends when state bowl berth's are picked in three months.  Between the Huskies and Seraphs are three state titles since 2007 and five berths into the state championship games since that same year.  The Huskies boast Arizona State commit Milo Jordan, who was at UCLA's Fall Scrimmage and Utah commit Lio Lafale in the trenches.  St. Bonaventure is led by quarterback Marc Evans, who UCLA is still watching this fall, and has UCLA as his dream school.

La Habra at La Mirada
UCLA commit Aaron Porter leads the Highlanders defense against La Mirada, and the key for La Habra is to not get caught looking ahead to next week's clash with Servite.

Lakewood vs. St. John Bosco
The Lancers feature a pair of 3-star receivers in Oregon State commit Malik Gilmore and uncommitted Darius Powe. Meanwhile, Bosco features the West's best receiver, Bryce Treggs, a five-star committed to Cal as well as three-star cornerback Dalis Bruce, three-star center and Arizona commit Beau Boyster and 2013 running back Davonte Young, who already has an offer from SMU.

Los Angeles Jordan at Encino Crespi
Fresh off a season opening rout of Compton Dominguez, Crespi, behind four-star offensive linemen Jordan Simmons and under-recruited three-star wide receiver Chris Harper as well as 2013 Crespi safety Tyler Foreman, welcome Los Angeles Jordan, who's led by receiver Robert McCovery, who covets a UCLA offer.

San Jose Valley Christian vs. Fresno Bullard
Bullard features UCLA commit Ian Taubler, a tight end and defensive end as well as Arizona State commit Stephon McCray.  But it's the brother of a current Arizona State player, running back Byron Marshall, who'll take center stage, being the state's top running back.

Gardena Serra at Redondo
The Cavs are led by UCLA commit Raymond Ford as well as a couple of UCLA recruits like Thomas Brown and Kache Palacio but they find themselves in a weird spot, being 0-1, after going unbeaten the past two seasons in the regular season.

Honolulu Punahou vs. Ioalani
Punahou, led by UCLA commit Steven Lakalaka and UCLA target DeForest Buckner, a four-star defensive end, looks to improve to 4-1.

Long Beach Poly at Carson
The Jackrabbits feature five Arizona State commits, receiver Josiah Blandin, receiver Richard Smith, cornerback Randall Goforth, linebacker Salamo Fiso and linebacker Matthew Rowe and top 2013 defensive back David Price, but UCLA is still trying with a few of them.  They take on the top team in the City Section in Carson, who's paced by four-star receiver Darreus Rogers, a USC commit.

Chula Vista Bonita Vista vs. Spring Valley Steele Canyon
Steele Canyon is led by UCLA commit Mario Yakoo in the trenches and three-star receiver/safety Chanceller James, a Boise State commit, is Steele Canyon's top skill prospect.

Euless Trinity vs. Richland
Trinity has UCLA commit Hiva Lutui and a couple of other recruits that UCLA has targeted like linebacker Brian Nance and safety Laiu Moeakiola.

Corona Santiago at Chino Hills
The Sharks continue their season against the Huskies and the Sharks are led by UCLA commit Isaiah Folasa.
