Neuheisel Video, Practice Notes

Coach Neuheisel answered questions after Thursday's short practice session...

Thursday Practice Report

Typical Thursday practice in shells and typical practice, which means there was some sloppiness ...
-
Richard Brehaut, who will start on Saturday at Oregon State, got all of the reps in a brief team red zone period and the majority of them in team v. scout. Kevin Prince had a handful of reps against the scout defense and Brett Hundley got some at the end.

Brehaut did not get off to a fast start.

In the red zone 7 on 7 against the No. 1 defense, playing nickel, the first pass was underthrown and picked off by Alex Mascarenas. His next pass he stared down Joe Fauria and tried to fit a pass in there, but it was broken up by Mike linebacker Patrick Larimore. The next play he took a sack, or would have before throwing out in the flat to Shaq Evans. On the last play against the No. 1 defense he missed Fauria in the end zone with too long a lead on his throw. When the No. 2 defense came in, he hit his first two throws, but then missed his third badly.

From there they went into the scout period. On the first play, Greg Capella jumped.
-
Brehaut did make a few very nice throws in that period, but one of the best was dropped by Evans.
-
Safety Tony Dye did not practice - the third day in a row. Coach Rick Neuheisel said that he was 50-50 to play at Oregon State. Tevin McDonald was getting the reps with the No. 1 defense.
-
Andrew Abbott also did not practice this week, leaving the Bruins short cornerbacks. The No. 2s all week were Brandon Sermons and walk-on Librado Barocio.
-
Tight end Raymond Nelson was back in practice, after missing two days to tend to a family matter.
-
In 2-minute, Brehaut got the No. 1 offense into position to kick a field goal, hitting passes to Nelson Rosario and Taylor Embree along the way. The field goal was taken by Tyler Gonzalez, the former manager on the soccer team. He missed badly on his first attempt and on the second try he hit the ball straight, but it was short. Jeff Locke was holding and Kip Smith, obviously, did not kick again.
-
Hundley's reps v. the scout team were OK. Neuheisel wouldn't commit to playing him - he said he wants him to be ready before he sends him out there.
