Neuheisel Video, Practice Notes

Coach Rick Neuheisel talked about the Stanford game, and the Bruins now have a number of injuries...

Decent tempo at practice. Richard Brehaut was a little erratic in team and throwing during individuals, but he made some nice throws in 7 on 7 v. the No. 1 and No. 2 defenses. His best throw probably was deep in the seam to Randall Carroll. Kevin Prince got two reps in that 7 on 7 and Brett Hundley got one.

On the flip side, Brehaut had a big malfunction in 2-minute.

With his primary options on a pass play not available, Brehaut was moving to his left and had to throw the ball away, his receivers covered and the play all but kaput. He fired it at the feet of running back Johnathan Franklin, but there was one huge problem. Franklin was behind him. The ball hit the ground and skidded away, but it was live, because Brehaut had thrown a lateral.

The ball was scooped up by an intern, who just happened to be standing right next to Coach Rick Neuheisel, before Tony Dye came running it to snatch the ball away and take off the other way.

Cornerback Jamie Graham (knee) was in practice. He participated in some individual drills, but when Brehaut was throwing to receivers working against cornerbacks and safeties, he sat out. Running back Johnathan Franklin, who sat out the second half of the victory at Oregon State, was back in practice.

F-back Anthony Barr was not in practice with a knee injury – he was to see team medical personnel after practice. Cornerback Sheldon Price (knee) and safety Dalton Hilliard (shoulder) did not practice. Safety Tony Dye (stinger), cornerback Andrew Abbott (concussion), defensive tackle Kevin McReynolds (concussion) and linebacker Jared Koster (stinger) all were in red no-contact jerseys.

Koster also was to see team doctors after practice.

Jeff Locke did the kicking during special teams. He made all four field goals attempted, three of them getting well off the ground. Tyler Gonzalez took two kicks with the No. 2s.

Kip Smith (hip flexor) and Joe Roberts (quad) did not take any kicks.

Locke also hit the field goal at the end of 2-minute. On that kick Taylor Embree handled the hold. Alex Mascarenas, who has been holding for PATs and field goal attempts, banged up his hand in practice.

With Price out, the Bruins have a big issue at the field cornerback position. Abbott, in the red no-contact jersey, took the reps there with the No. 1 defense. Aaron Hester stayed at the boundary corner.

The No. 2 defense had Brandon Sermons to the field and walk-on Librado Barocio in the boundary.

Quarterback Darius Bell has been working with the scout team as a receiver since the start of the season. He finally got out of the black jersey that the quarterbacks wear and put on a scout jersey – he now can be hit … or thudded anyway.

Dye did not participate in all team periods. When he was out, Tevin McDonald worked with the No. 1 defense.

Donovan Carter and Cassius Marsh got most of the reps with the No. 1 defense at the tackle spots, but in 2-minute Justin Edison was in there. Seali'i Epenesa and Nate Chandler got most of the work with the No. 2 defense.
Sam linebacker Glenn Love had to limp out of 2-minute. His status was to be evaluated.
