Weekend Recruiting Recap: Week 3

A look back at how UCLA's top recruiting targets and commits did in their week three games...

Game of the Week: Westlake Village Oaks Christian def. Ventura St. Bonaventure, 34-24
In a game that featured plenty of drama, and even some controversy (like the lights going out on the field when St. Bonaventure was on their own goalline, and it resulting in a safety a few plays later), the Lions dropped their Marmonte League rivals for the second straight year.  UCLA target Ishmael Adams ran for 82 yards on 12 carries and scored two touchdowns and had three tackles for Oaks.  Marc Evans was 12-for-22 for 158 yards and ran and threw for a touchdown in the loss.

Orange Lutheran def. La Habra, 30-24
The Highlanders lost a heartbreaker for the second straight week to a Trinity League team, this time dropping an overtime contest to Orange Lutheran.  UCLA commit Aaron Porter ran for a touchdown and recorded double-digit tackles and two sacks in the loss.

Mission Viejo def. Long Beach Poly, 17-12
In an ugly contest, two traditional powerhouses took each other on with the Diablos outlasting the Jackrabbits.  UCLA target Colby Cyburt had three pancake blocks in the win for the Diablos.

Mission Hills Alemany def. West Hills Chaminade, 38-14
Alemany bounced back from their first loss of the season with a big game from 2013 prospect Steven Mitchell, who UCLA has offered.  Mitchell had nine catches for 151 yards and two touchdowns.  UCLA commit Jerico Richardson contributed on both sides of the ball for Alemany.

Encino Crespi def. Palisades, 40-0
Crespi used the big play ability of UCLA recruit Chris Harper to roll to a 40-point victory.  Harper only had three catches, but one went for 78 yards and he finished with 142 yards, two for scores and junior safety Brandon Arnold had two picks.

Gardena Serra def. Mira Costa, 27-7
The Cavs were still without UCLA commit Raymond Ford, out with an injury but Kache Palacio was big with 13 tackles and three sacks and UCLA recruit Thomas Brown added seven tackles for the Cavs.

Chula Vista Eastlake def. Spring Valley Steele Canyon, 25-7
San Diego's top team, Eastlake, had no problem with a Steele Canyon team with UCLA commit Mario Yakoo, cruising to the 18-point win.

Euless Trinity def. Colleyville Heritage, 38-35
Led by UCLA commit Hiva Lutui, Trinity ran for over 300 yards but needed overtime to stave off an upset from Heritage.  Trinity kicked a field goal in overtime to win by three.
