Payton Has Favorite

There were some rumors about the recruitment of South Hills' Bryan Payton, and the talented, tough defensive back talked about them, how his recruiting situation has changed recently, including how he now has a clear favorite...

Bryan Payton, 6-1, 185, Covina (Calif.) South Hills, now has a clear favorite for his services.

"As of right now, it's UCLA," Payton said.

There was a rumor that Payton had verbally committed to the Bruins recently, but he denied it. "I didn't commit. I haven't really thought about it that much. UCLA offered me about two weeks ago, and since then I've been thinking about them. But I don't think I'll make a decision until about August."

To date, UCLA and Oregon State are the two schools that have offered the physical defensive back. "Colorado, though, said they were going to offer by the end of this month," Payton said.

Arizona and Arizona State are also recruiting Payton pretty seriously, to the point that he believes they could also offer him a scholarship soon.

Bryan's twin brother, Jeremy, has been offered by Oregon State. The two always thought they'd go to college together as a package deal, but recently have become open to going to different colleges. "I think we have to decide what to do individually," Bryan said, "And if we decide to go to the same place, great." Most of the schools that are interested in Bryan are interested in Jeremy, too, including UCLA.

Bryan said that UCLA is recruiting him as cornerback, but he'd be willing to move to wherever they wanted to put him. "I think I'll come in as a cornerback first, but then they'll see if they want to move me," he said.

He plans on attending UCLA's Junior Day May 31st, but he'll miss UCLA's Four-Day Camp since his high school team will be participating in a passing league tournament.
