Neuheisel Video, Practice Notes

Coach Rick Neuheisel talked about the team's practice Wednesday, freshman quarterback Brett Hundley and a starting OL sat again...

Kevin Prince did not look as good as he did yesterday in the 7 on 7, holding the ball too long on a number of plays and also making some poor throws. He missed Taylor Embree deep by about 8 yards, but also threw behind Jerry Rice Jr. on a slant (that Rice caught) and threw a knuckler to Ricky Marvray that was dropped. In the red zone 7 on 7, Prince threw two near picks, one in the direction of Joe Fauria that bounced off the hands of Andrew Abbott and Dietrich Riley, and the other a quick slant to Smith that Riley sniffed out. Overall, Prince was 10 of 16 during 7 on 7 periods, and did have some nice moments, in particular a throw to Joe Fauria that split a couple of defenders in the back of the endzone.

Prince ran the two minute offense at the end of practice, and did a fair bit better than in the 7 on 7, but he was holding onto the ball too long. He completed 4 of 5 passes, with the only miss a throw to Randall Carroll that hit him in the hands, setting Tyler Gonzalez up for a 38 yard field goal that he punched through the uprights. In other news, the uprights are now straightened.

Brett Hundley only got a few reps during 7 on 7, but did a bit more extensive work in the scout team period. The big things with him are just the freshman things- he's not looking off of his primary receiver, and if that guy isn't open, he's taking off running. The good thing is, he doesn't appear to have the propensity to throw interceptions (by forcing it to the primary), so if he can learn to go through his progressions, he's going to be pretty good. The only really bad ball he threw was to Ricky Marvray on a slant where he stared him down the entire way, but Marvray did a nice job of boxing out Dalton Hilliard trying to make the pick.

In a nice moment, Cory Harkey and John Young, both tight ends with some catching issues, took some initiative and played catch on the sideline for a good portion of practice. Young in particular had a couple of bad drops in 7 on 7.

Glenn Love was back in practice today, and looked like a full go, playing on defense and special teams. He was rubbing the hamstring occasionally and did take a few moments to jump on the exercise bike at times.

Alberto Cid again sat out practice. The word is that he's sick, which could have caused the shortness of breath yesterday. Wade Yandall again took his snaps at guard.

Justin Edison was out of the red jersey today and a full go for practice, but Johnathan Franklin remained in the red jersey. Tony Dye, Damien Thigpen, Nelson Rosario, and Jerry Johnson all did not practice and spent a good portion of the practice riding the exercise bikes. Shaquelle (not Shaquille) Evans (concussive symptoms) again sat out practice. Sheldon Price (not Prince) and Anthony Jefferson both suited up in shells but did not practice. Price is still wearing the brace on his knee. Anthony Barr remained out.

Chris Ward was back, and spent most of practice working with the 2's.
