DL Prospect Lawrence Miles

The buzz is that Lawrence Miles from La Quinta could be among the best defensive lineman in the west, impressing many college coaches this spring. He has some solid offers and is looking for more...

La Quinta (Calif.) High defensive lineman Lawrence Miles (6-2 ½, 250) is no stranger to the travails of recruiting, having seen a pair of former high school teammates get their share of attention from college scouts. Coming from the same program as Stanford's Michael Craven and San Diego State's Frederic Collins, Miles has seen up close what recruiting is like, and he has no problem with it.

"It's going real good for me and I like hearing from the coaches and schools," said Miles.

While it is still early, Miles has a list of schools he is hearing from but couldn't pare it down to a top five. "I like Oregon, Oregon State, Utah, San Diego State, Arizona State, Arizona, UCLA and USC, but my childhood favorite is Penn State. I always liked watching them when I was growing up, and I would love to hear from them."

Miles said he currently has offers from Oregon, Arizona State, Arizona and San Diego State. But he is still waiting for offers from UCLA, USC -- and Penn State.

Interestingly, even though Penn State is his favorite, it may be tough for the Nittany Lions to get Miles to agree to go to school in Pennsylvania. Miles said, "It's kind of far, but I want to take one of my trips there to see what its like."

While he will most likely play defensive tackle or end in college, Miles will play some offensive line for La Quinta. However, he realizes that the defensive line is where he most likely will end up. "It doesn't matter to me whether I play DT or DE," said Miles.

Miles also throws the shotput and discus, and wants to possible do track in college, but he said it was something he'd decide later.

He currently has a 2.4 GPA and will take the SAT in June.
