Fairbairn Picks the Bruins

Honolulu (Hawaii) Punahou kicker Ka'imi Fairbairn got offered by UCLA last month and was close to picking the Bruins, but decided to hold off.

Fairbairn wanted to see the UCLA campus before he picked the Bruins.

So Fairbairn and his family did just that last weekend, unofficially visiting UCLA and going to the Bruins win against Cal at the Rose Bowl.

And the trip to Westwood and Pasadena sealed the deal for Fairbairn, and he committed to UCLA.

"I think what did it was the unofficial visit I went on this past weekend," said Fairbairn. "My parents and I flew out there for the Cal game and to check out the campus. We all loved it and didn't see any flaws so I pulled the trigger."

Fairbairnlet head coach Rick Neuheisel and assistant coach Inoke Breckterfield, who was recruiting Fairbairn, know of his decision.

"I talked to both Coach Neuheisel and Coach Inoke and they were both in the same room and I got to let them both know of my commitment to UCLA," said Fairbairn.

Fairbairn became the second Punahou prospect to commit to UCLA in the 2012 class, joining teammate Steven Lakalaka, UCLA's first commit.

And Fairbairn said they're immediately turning their efforts on to two more Punahou teammates that UCLA has offered, four-star defensive ends DeForest Buckner and Luke Kaumatule, a Stanford commit.

"We are going to try to influence them as much as we can," said Fairbairn. "We're all going to visit UCLA officially on January 13th."

In the meantime, Fairbairn said he's glad to be done with the process, quick as it was.

"I'm very relieved to be done," said Fairbairn. "It is a great feeling."
