Neuheisel Video, Thursday Notes

The session on Thursday is much improved from Wednesday, and Coach Rick Neuheisel acknowledges that, and talks about facing ASU's quarterback and turnover-causing defense...

Thursdays are in helmets, shoulder pads and shorts and the practice is shortened, but it was a better session than Wednesday. There was more energy among the players and more efficiency on the field, and the coaches were in better moods as a result.

In the initial redzone 7-on-7, Kevin Prince went 7-for-7, hitting Joseph Fauria with three different touchdown passes among the 7 completions, one bouncing off the back of safety Stan McKay before settling into Fauria's hands. Prince then had an easy swing pass to Jordon James that he missed, after seven considerably more difficult completions.

The team went into the scout portion of practice, and perhaps the most significant development there was defensive end Wesley Flowers working with 1s and 2s with Iuta Tepa still out. Glenn Love got some more work at safety, also. Datone Jones still worked at both defensive end and defensive tackle. Prince looked sharp against the scout team D.

Freshman wide receiver Devin Lucien is easily the go-to guy of the offensive scout team.

With Christoph Bono portraying Brock Osweiler and Jerry Rice Jr as Jamal Miles for the scout team offense, the Bono-Rice connection couldn't quite hook up. In fact, Andrew Abbott stepped in front of Rice to pick off a Bono pass.

In the two-minute, Aramide Olaniyan blew past tight end Cory Harkey for a virtual sack on the first play. Prince then completed a pass over the middle to Shaquelle Evans, threw an incompletion, a completion for 15 yards to Fauria, a short completion to Derrick Coleman on a ball that was tipped by Datone Jones, and then a ten-yard gain to Taylor Embree before "killing" it and stopping the clock. Prince then threw a fade for a touchdown to Fauria.

The status of all of the injured remained the same. Quarterback Richard Brehaut will probably practice next week, but it's believed it will take another week before he's ready to play.

UCLA's official injury report:

Allen -- right knee probable
Brehaut -- left ankle, out
Dye -- neck, out
Locke -- right shoulder, probable
Riley -- neck, out
Tepa -- back, probable
Ward -- left knee, out
Young -- right knee, out
