Prospect Preview: Week Nine

A look at the weekend's games featuring UCLA commits and prospects, with a big battle in the San Gabriel Valley League featuring UCLA and USC commits and another big one in the Central Section...

Game of the Week: Compton Dominguez vs. Downey at 7:30 p.m.
UCLA and USC commits will meet in this San Gabriel Valley League matchup. Downey is led by USC verbal Jabari Ruffin, who plays both ways for Downey.  Dominguez features newest UCLA verbal, Lacy Westbrook, on it's offensive line, which also has an Arizona State commit in Dejon Allen, as well as a UCLA recruit in the secondary, Brandon Beaver, along with defensive lineman Damion Turpin, who UCLA has also offered.

Bellflower St. John Bosco vs. Santa Margarita at 7:30 p.m.
A few of UCLA's 2013 recruits will be featured in this contest, St. John Bosco having running back Davonte Young and lineman Nico Falah while Santa Margarita has Riley Sorenson and Erik Bunte on their offensive line.  But the true stars are USC commit Max Tuerk for Santa Margarita and Cal commit Bryce Treggs for St. John Bosco, as well as underrated Dalis Bruce, who UCLA has been keeping tabs on.

Mission Hills Alemany vs. Los Angeles Loyola at 7:30 p.m.
UCLA commit Jerico Richardson and 2013 elite prospect Steven Mitchell, who has a UCLA offer, take on Loyola, who has UCLA head coach Rick Neuheisel's son Jack Neuheisel, a junior tight end, Stanford commit Kodi Whitfield and Boise State commit Chaz Anderson.

Harvard-Westlake vs. Gardena Serra at 7:00 p.m.
Serra looks to keep it's long league winning streak alive, and they'll do so against Harvard-Westlake.  Serra is paced by UCLA commit Raymond Ford, SMU commit Kache Palacio and Thomas Brown, who will visit Nebraska this weekend, at linebacker.

Westlake Village Oaks Christian vs. Moorpark 7:00 p.m.
Oaks Christian, behind UCLA target Ishmael Adams, tries to stay alive in the Marmonte League when they face Moorpark, and Iowa State commit Grant Rohach, in a key league battle.

Westlake vs. Agoura at 7:00 p.m.
The Warriors look to stay unbeaten and keep their CIF State Bowl hopes alive.  A defense featuring UCLA commit Dashon Hunt (2013) and Colorado commit Justin Solis will look to shut down the Chargers while Westlake's offense is led by quarterback Justin Moore, a 2013 prospect, who's stock is skyrocketing.

Murrieta Valley vs. Vista Murrieta at 7:00 p.m.
Vista Murrieta has Southern California's top 2013 prospect, Su'a Cravens, who has a UCLA offer, as well as four-star defensive end Jeremy Castro, a recent commit to Oregon that UCLA is still trying with. 

Fresno Bullard vs. Fresno San Joaquin Memorial at 7:00 p.m.
San Joaquin Memorial has one of the best running backs in the West in Chris Brown, and a 2013 stud who UCLA is recruiting, Jaylen Ruiz, on the defensive line while Bullard boasts UCLA verbal Ian Taubler and Arizona State pledge Stephon McCray.

Bakersfield Highland vs. Bakersfield Ridgeview at 7:00 p.m.
Ridgeview looks to stay unbeaten behind UCLA commit Shannon Edwards, who's been starring on both sides of the ball, and will have to carry a bigger load with quarterback Tyler Ferguson out with a broken collarbone.

Sonora vs. La Habra at 7:00 p.m.
In a key Freeway League game, La Habra looks to stay undefeated in league play behind UCLA pledge Aaron Porter, and face crosstown rival Sonora.

Elk Grove Laguna Creek vs. Elk Grove at 7:00 p.m.
Elk Grove offensive lineman Steven Moore, who had committed to Arizona, will visit UCLA officially this weekend.  But first things first, Elk Grove takes on crosstown foe Laguna Creek.

Other UCLA Commits in Action
Spring Valley Steele Canyon and UCLA commit Mario Yakoo face Grossmont.  Kona (Hawaii) Kealakehe and running back Psalm Wooching play Kea'au, who they beat 13-12 two weeks ago.  Bear (Dele.) Red Lion Christian defensive end Eli Ankou takes on Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) University.  Diablo Valley (Calif.) College defensive end Morgan Breslin meet Merced.   Riverside Poly faces Corona Santiago and UCLA verbal Isaiah Folasa.

Thursday Night Results
Dorsey, with UCLA recruits Jaydon Mickens and Jeremiah Allison, beat rival Crenshaw, 7-6.  Euless Trinity, with UCLA verbals Hiva Lutui and Laiu Moeakiola, beat Irving Macarthur, 34-17.  Honolulu Punahou and UCLA commits Steven Lakalaka and Ka'imi Fairbairn defeated Honolulu Kamehameha for the second time this year, 24-17.
