Bruins Still Trying with Harper

The Ontario (Calif.) Colony athlete and Washington commit Bryan Harper has been a frequent guest at UCLA games this season and the Bruin staff has been in consistent contact with him...

Ontario (Calif.) Colony athlete Bryan Harper (6-1, 178), remains committed to Washington and plans to visit the Huskies this month.

But Harper hasn't entirely shut out other schools.

"Right now, you could say I'm solid to Washington," said Harper. "I'm going on my official there for the Apple Cup when they play Washington State."

In the meantime, a number of other Pac-12 schools have been coming in on him.

"UCLA has offered and there are a couple of other schools that could offer, like Oregon and Utah," said Harper. "I know I'm going to visit Arizona, but I haven't really planned a lot of my visits. There are some schools that are planning to offer me. Oregon wants to offer, they just want to see a little more. Coach (John) Neal is recruiting me. And Utah said they really like me and may offer too, Coach (Aaron) Roderick, so that's why I haven't really set any of my visits yet."

Harper has been at games in Los Angeles the last two weekends, for the USC-Stanford 3-OT game and last week's UCLA-Arizona State game that came down to the final seconds.

"I've been lucky enough to go to two great games in a row, USC-Stanford, UCLA-Arizona State," said Harper.

He'll also get a chance to see the school he's committed to this weekend.

"I'm going to the USC-Washington game this weekend," said Harper. "And then I'm going to UCLA-Colorado."

Harper said that his commitment to the Huskies came as a defensive back, and that most schools still recruiting him are looking at him for that.

"Most schools are recruiting me as a corner, a lot of schools like me on the offensive side of the ball, that not just my play on defense stands out, but my offense stands out too," said Harper. "Honestly I would love to play offense, but it wouldn't hurt my decision. I just like making plays."

Harper said that UCLA has picked up their efforts with him.

"Playing close to home is never bad and talking with Coach (Clark) Lea, they like me a lot and I like them a lot. I've been to the campus a bunch of times, I've seen pretty much everything so I don't know if I'll take an official there. It depends, if Coach Lea wants me to take one.

At the same time, he's seen the strides Washington has made this season, having clinched a bowl spot for the second straight year.

"Washington has been playing real good and I talk to Coach Meat (Demetrice Martin) all the time and I'm looking forward to my visit up there and seeing them this weekend," said Harper.
