Weekend Recruiting Recap: Week 9

A look back at how UCLA's top recruiting targets and commits did in their week nine games, including a big game for one of the Hawaii backs...

Game of the Week: Downey def. Dominguez, 36-35
USC commit Jabari Ruffin had two touchdowns in the fourth quarter to help Downey rally from a 22-point deficit and a huge San Gabriel Valley League win.  An offensive line led by UCLA commit Lacy Westbrook helped Dominguez rush for nearly 300 yards in the loss.

Kona (Hawaii) Kealakehe def. Kea'au, 60-18
UCLA commit Psalm Wooching had 250 yards rushing, three touchdowns and a two-point conversion.  Wooching had dedicated the game to his newborn cousin, who was born with a major heart problem, and had wristbands dedicated to her.  The win allowed Kealakehe to win the conference championship.

Mission Hills Alemany def. Los Angeles Loyola, 28-14.
UCLA commit Jerico Richardson had two touchdown receptions and helped shut down Loyola and clinch at least a tie for the Serra League title, and keep them unbeaten in Serra League play in their first two years in the league.

Gardena Serra def. Harvard-Westlake, 70-14
Serra kept its long league winning streak alive and cruised to a win over Harvard-Westlake.  Kache Palacio and Thomas Brown each had a sack and UCLA commit Raymond Ford has two tackles in the win.

Westlake Village Oaks Christian def. Moorpark, 17-14
Oaks Christian, behind UCLA target Ishmael Adams, needed a last-minute field goal to beat Moorpark and keep their Marmonte League title hopes alive. Adams ran for 161 yards, caught four passes and scored a touchdown with a couple of tackles.

Westlake def. Agoura, 45-19
The Warriors kept their CIF State Bowl hopes alive and set up a showdown for the Marmonte League title on Thursday night with the win over the Chargers.  Junior quarterback Justin Moore was 13-for-14 for 211 yards and a pair of touchdown passes with a touchdown run, UCLA commit Dashon Hunt ran for 34 yards on five carries, had four tackles and an interception and ran for a touchdown in the win.

La Habra def. Sonora, 30-13
In a key Freeway League matchup, La Habra used the legs of UCLA commit Aaron Porter to knock off Sonora.  Porter rushed for 167 yards and three touchdowns in the win.

Other UCLA Commits in Action
Bakersfield Ridgeview and UCLA verbal Shannon Edwards beat Bakersfield Highland, 21-13. Fresno Bullard and UCLA commit Ian Taubler beat Fresno San Joaquin Memorial, 38-21.  Spring Valley Steele Canyon and UCLA commit Mario Yakoo beat Grossmont, 30-18.   Bear (Dele.) Red Lion Christian defensive end Eli Ankou fell to Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) University, 54-42.  Diablo Valley (Calif.) College defensive end Morgan Breslin lost to Merced, 27-20.   Corona Santiago and UCLA verbal Isaiah Folasa beat Riverside Poly, 43-7.  Euless Trinity, with UCLA verbals Hiva Lutui and Laiu Moeakiola, beat Irving Macarthur, 34-17.  Honolulu Punahou and UCLA commits Steven Lakalaka and Ka'imi Fairbairn defeated Honolulu Kamehameha for the second time this year, 24-17.
