Weekend Recruiting Recap: Week Ten

A look back at how UCLA's top recruiting targets and commits did in their week ten games, including a couple of defensive commits having big games on offense...

Game of the Week: Westlake def. St. Bonaventure, 35-14
Westlake junior Dashon Hunt, a UCLA commit, had a huge game on offense, rushing for 202 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries, catching three passes for 46 yards and recording six tackles and a pass deflection to keep Westlake unbeaten and give them the #1 seed in the CIF-SS Northern Division playoffs.  Junior quarterback Justin Moore was 14-for-19 for 200 yards and a pair of touchdowns and ran for 119 yards and a touchdown on 12 carries in the win.

La Habra def. Troy, 48-24
Thanks to a big night on offense by UCLA commit Aaron Porter, the Highlanders wrapped up another Freeway League title as they go for their fifth straight CIF-SS title.  Porter ran for 145 yards and three touchdowns in the win.

Serra def. Chaminade, 35-29
Serra won another league title, this time their second straight Mission League title and earned the top-seed in the CIF-SS Western Division playoffs, rallying to beat Chaminade.  UCLA commit Raymond Ford had four tackles, two pass deflections and an interception in the win for the Cavs.

Mission Hills Alemany def. Sherman Oaks Notre Dame, 21-14
UCLA commit Jerico Richardson and 2013 elite prospect Steven Mitchell, who has a UCLA offer, helped Alemany win the Serra League title.  Mitchell caught two touchdown passes, from 54 and 35 yards out and finished with eight catches for 156 yards. 2013 quarterback Kelly Hilinski was 7-for-15 for 187 yards and a touchdown pass and running back Khalfanni Muhammed, who UCLA has offered, was held to 31 yards on seven carries in a losing effort.

Fresno Bullard def. Fresno Sunnyside, 28-7
Rising senior running back Demetrius Warren went over the 2,000 yard mark on the season and UCLA commit Ian Taubler had a big game on both sides of the ball to help Bullard clinch the #2 seed out of their league.

Elk Grove def. River City, 41-0
Elk Grove offensive lineman Steven Moore, who visited UCLA officially last weekend, kept Elk Grove unbeaten and in contention for a CIF State Bowl game and a 41-0 rout.

Leilahua def. Kona Kealakehe, 35-24
UCLA commit Psalm Wooching and Kealakehe had their season come to an end in a first round playoff loss.  Wooching ran for 112 yards on eight carries in his final game, but was held out of the end zone.

Other UCLA Commits in Action
Bear (Dele.) Red Lion Christian defensive end Eli Ankou defeated Souderton (Penn.), 47-7.  Diablo Valley (Calif.) College defensive end Morgan Breslin defeated Los Medanos, 38-0, though Breslin was sidelined with an injury.   Honolulu Punahou, with UCLA verbals Ka'imi Fairbairn and Steven Lakalaka, have a first round bye in the Hawaii D-I state playoffs.  Compton Dominguez, with a slew of UCLA prospects, including commit Lacy Westbrook, beat Paramount, 32-27.  Euless Trinity, with UCLA verbals Hiva Lutui and Laiu Moeakiola, beat Irving Macarthur, 34-17.  Bakersfield Ridgeview won their league title by beating Golden Valley, 53-20, thanks to UCLA commit Shannon Edwards.  La Mesa Helix downed Steele Canyon and UCLA verbal Mario Yakoo.  Corona Santiago and Bruin commit Isaiah Folasa clinched a playoff spot by beating Corona Roosevelt, 34-28 in double overtime.

Other UCLA Recruits in Action
Dorsey, with UCLA recruits Jaydon Mickens and Jeremiah Allison, won the Coliseum League by beating Locke, 33-7.  Oaks Christian, with UCLA target Ishmael Adams, beat Newbury Park, 42-7.
