A rising prospect from Venice High School is athlete James Lewis (6-0, 197), who has had a few good performances at various camps and combines.

A quick, strong playmaker, Lewis prefers to play wide receiver but also can play in the secondary in college. "I want to play wide receiver, and make plays, but if a school wants me to play defense, then that's okay with me," Lewis said.

Lewis as heard from many schools during the May evaluation period. "I'm hearing from Washington, Washington State, Colorado, Arizona State, Arizona, Tennessee, Miami, Syracuse and UCLA."

When asked about a top three, he had no hesitation. "UCLA, Tennessee and Arizona State are my three favorites. I want to take my trips to other places too, but those are my top three. UCLA coach Bieniemy is recruiting me. He is a real cool guy and knows how to get to the NFL."

Lewis attended a UCLA spring practice and the spring scrimmage in April.

While some players prefer to redshirt as freshman, Lewis has no designs on that. "I want to go somewhere that I can get early playing time, don't have to redshirt, and make plays as a freshman. My mom wants me to go wherever I feel is best for me, it doesn't matter where, but she wants me to get a good education."

He currently has a 2.5 GPA and will take the SAT's for the first time in June.
