UCLA Fires Neuheisel

UCLA Athletic Director Dan Guerrero fired Football Coach Rick Neuheisel today...

Los Angeles – UCLA Head Football Coach Rick Neuheisel, who compiled a record of 21-28 in his four years at the helm, has been relieved of his duties, it was announced today by UCLA Director of Athletics Dan Guerrero.

Neuheisel will coach the Bruins in the inaugural Pac-12 Championship game on Friday, after which the Bruins will be led on an interim basis by offensive coordinator/wide receivers coach Mike Johnson. A national search for a permanent head coach will begin immediately.

"I have a great deal of respect for Rick Neuheisel and the manner in which he has run this program during his tenure as UCLA head football coach. Decisions such as this one do not come without a great deal of heartache," said Guerrero. "However, it is apparent to me that a move was necessary at this time in order to give UCLA the best chance to enjoy the success that we all desire."

Guerrero will address the media this afternoon at a 2:30 pm press conference, tentatively scheduled for the Press Room of the JD Morgan Center. The press conference will be video streamed LIVE on UCLABruins.com.
