Practice Notes, Johnson Video

Kevin Prince sits out practice with a sore knee, Mike Johnson tells the media that he doesn't expect to be retained at UCLA, and also discusses the Akron job...

UCLA had a shortened practice on Friday, going from 10:30 to noon, and it was again a slightly slower tempo from the first couple of days. It bears repeating, though, that it's still a much higher tempo than prior to this week. Part of the reason for the slowed tempo was an emphasis on special teams practice for the first half hour or so.

Kevin Prince sat out practice for precautionary reasons because of soreness in his knee, but Mike Johnson expects him back tomorrow. In his absence, Richard Brehaut took the primary snaps with the 1's and Nick Crissman got a few more reps.

Brehaut didn't take advantage of the increased load, throwing a couple of interceptions during team drills and looking pretty inaccurate overall. His deep balls, in particular, were pretty off. At one point, he missed Shaq Evans on a deep post by about 15 yards.

John Young did not dress for practice, after suffering a left knee injury on Wednesday. He did throw the ball around a bit on the sideline.

During field goal drills at the beginning of practice, Tyler Gonzalez had one kick blocked at the line and kicked another into the upright.

Devin Lucien had a great catch over Randall Carroll in the 1 on 1's, snagging a ball with his right hand while diving in the back of the end zone and then tucking it with his left. Nelson Rosario had one of his good focus days where you wonder how he wasn't an All American. He caught a number of balls in traffic during 7 on 7, and at one point pulled a touchdown catch away from Sheldon Price while falling out of the back of the end zone.

During the 11 on 11, Jeff Baca and Iuta Tepa got into it a little bit after a play. Baca pushed Tepa a little roughly out of the way, and then he and Tepa exchanged what would be an insult to call punches at each other's helmets. They were then separated with no further incident.

The team went paint balling yesterday as a team building bowl activity.

Also, in the post game scrum, Mike Johnson said that he doesn't expect to be retained at UCLA.
