Athlete Jones Has Offers

He comes from a school, Harbor City Narbonne, that has a long line of producing top talent, and athlete Keenan Jones looks to be another, with an offer from a Big 12 school and others...

Over the past few years, Harbor City (Calif.) Narbonne has sent a load of players on to Division 1 schools throughout the country, including a nation's best eight in 2002. This year, another Gaucho could be among the elite on the west coast.

Wide receiver/defensive back/athlete Keenan Jones (5-11, 165) is the next in line at Narbonne to have college coaches intrigued by him, and he already has a few of offers in. "I've got offers from Colorado, San Diego State and San Jose State so far," said Jones.

Jones is also receiving attention from Oregon, Washington State, UNLV, Colorado State, Arizona and UCLA. "Right now my top three would be UCLA, San Diego State and USC," said Jones.

At the Nike Combine, Jones clocked a 4.6 on a sore hamstring in the 40, but turned around and had the best time in the shuttle at 4.1.

With former teammates scattered throughout the Pac-10, Jones would prefer to play there and has gotten plenty of feedback from them on their experiences. He insists the choice will be made by him and not any of his teammates, though. "I talk to Alex (Potasi, UCLA OT) and Marcus (O'Keith, California DB) and they tell me what college is like, what recruiting is like and what to expect, but they aren't really pushing me to follow them. They know its up to me."

For now, Jones is intent on having a senior season to remember, coming off consecutive years of winning the Los Angeles Invitational Division, but he has bigger aspirations this season. He said, "We want to win the whole City this year."

Jones has a 2.5 GPA and took the SAT in May.
