Monrovia (Calif.) defensive tackle Ellis McCarthy, the five-star U.S. Army All-American, is winding down his recruitment, and with a month to go, two Pac-12 schools lead for him. "Right now it's USC and Cal and Cal is at the top," said McCarthy. "I'll visit Cal, USC and UCLA. I already visited Oregon. Those are the four I'm looking at and maybe in the mix is a visit to Arizona State."

McCarthy said each of those schools stood out in different ways.

Cal: "With Cal, I like Coach (Tosh) Lupoi a lot, and I went up there on an unofficial and liked it a lot and the players are really cool," said McCarthy.

USC: "Coach (Ed) Orgeron has been recruiting me and he came to my house and I like him a lot and USC is a good school with a lot of good defensive linemen coming through there."

UCLA: "With Coach (Demetrice) Martin to UCLA, I liked that because I like him as a good coach and UCLA is closer to the area and they're actually bringing in good coaches now."

Oregon: "I had a really good time on my visit and Coach (Chip) Kelly is a good coach. They're going to come and visit me at my house this month."

McCarthy said he's planning to host in-home visits with the head coaches of Cal, USC, UCLA and Oregon in January, and he's likely waiting until the end to make a decision.

"I may decide on Signing Day, I don't know yet when it will be," said McCarthy.
