But the four-star said even he's not sure which hat he'll put on come Saturday.
Payton, though, said it will be hard to pick against the Golden State schools.
"They're both right here for me," said Payton. "It's a good opportunity at either school."
So what stands out for the Bears and Bruins?
"With Cal, it's like a family, and I have a good relationship with Coach (Ron) Gould and Coach (Tosh) Lupoi," said Payton. "And with UCLA, Coach (Jim) Mora will get you to the league. UCLA is a great school and it's literally two minutes from my house."
Getting his first offer as a freshman, Saturday will end a long recruitment.
"I'm ready to shut it down," said Payton. "It's been fun but it's been stressful."
In the meantime, Payton is looking forward to one last time to play as a prep.
"Win or lose on Saturday, it's going to be a great experience," said Payton.
