Sudfeld Recruitment Wide Open

Modesto Christian quarterback Nate Sudfeld has decommitted from Arizona and considers his recruitment wide open, and currently only has one visit scheduled...

Modesto Christian quarterback Nathan Sudfeld, who committed to Arizona in July, now considers his recruitment wide open.

"I decommitted from Arizona this morning. I was planning on going somewhere early, but right now, I wasn't ready to go early. I didn't feel fully right about it, and I felt like I need to open myself up to some other options possibly."

Right now, Sudfeld has a couple of leaders, but he's still waiting on other schools to contact him, and should know more about other interest by next week.

"Arizona and UCLA are at the top right now, but I'll know more next week because a lot of other schools are showing interest. UCLA's definitely one of them at the top."

The quarterback plans to visit UCLA on January 20th, and is still getting to know the coaching staff, having talked with Coaches Tuiasosopo and McClure. He's planning on speaking with Coach Mazzone soon.

As for what he's looking for in a school, he doesn't have a specific idea in mind, but wants to get a feel for different schools.

"I want a place where I can come in and compete, not necessarily play right away, but compete to play some time. First, Arizona is all I've ever known, so I'm kind of excited to get something to compare Arizona to. I'm excited about that, but I don't really know. I just kind of want to see how it feels and if I like the coaching staff."

Rick Neuheisel's staff recruited Sudfeld, but although they liked him as a quarterback, the staff and Sudfeld mutually agreed that the pistol probably wasn't a good fit for him. Now with Mazzone, and his more pro style scheme, on staff, Sudfeld's interest in UCLA has increased.

Sudfeld, who reports a 4.14 GPA, is also thinking about taking a visit to Harvard, but hasn't decided yet.

Previously, he was thinking about entering Arizona early in the spring, but he now doesn't think he'll aim to do that regardless of his destination.

"I don't think I'm going to do that anymore. I think I'm going to let my recruitment play out. That was pretty much for Arizona as a early commitment."

Right now, UCLA is the only visit he has scheduled, but he's going to see who's interested over the next week to see about planning more.
