Powell's decision came shortly after his official visit to UCLA last weekend.
"When I went there on my official last weekend, I felt comfortable with all the players, coaches and captains," said Powell. "They have great academics as well. Overall it's just a good fit for me."
His Bruin offer came shortly after Demetrice Martin was hired at UCLA to join Jim Mora's staff.
He had already developed a relationship with Martin, since he was his recruiter at Washington.
After receiving the offer from UCLA, Powell immediately scheduled his official and the rest was history.
"I just had a good feeling the whole time I was there," said Powell. "I knew it was the right place and I felt really comfortable there. I am excited about their new coaching staff. They are all going to be a big turnaround for their program, I can't wait to be apart of that."
UCLA was also Powell's only in-state offer, so having the option to play Pac-12 football close to home was hard for him to turn down.
"The fact that it's close to home is just a big plus, knowing it will be easy for all my family and friends to be able to come and watch me play," commented Powell.
Powell says he felt good about his decision, especially since he has the stamp of approval from his mom.
"My mom likes that I am staying close. She is excited for me and is being supportive of my decision," said Powell. "She was with me on my official and said she got a good feeling about the program too."
