Iese Commits to UCLA

The Sacramento (Calif.) Sheldon athlete, who plays both tight end and defensive end, Nate Iese, had been leaning to UCLA and made it official Thursday...

Nate Iese, the 6-4, 240-pound tight end/defensive end/linebacker from Sacramento (Calif.) Sheldon, has verbally committed to UCLA, according to his father.

Iese had scholarship offers from Nebraska, Cal, Oregon State, Arizona State, Arizona and Washington State. He took official visits to Nebraska, Nevada and Washington State, as well as UCLA.

"It's been trying and fun for Nate," his father said. "He cancelled his in-home visit with Cal tonight, and his last official to Cal next week." has him ranked as the 61st best defensive end in the nation, but he's considered under-rated by many scouts.

The three-star prospect will actually be heading to Westwood as an outside linebacker. With Jim Mora wanting to move toward more of a flexible defense, the athletic Iese is thought to be a good fit for a 3-4 defense.

Given that athleticism, his father did say that the UCLA coaches had a meeting with Iese in which they brought up the possibility of playing him in certain tight end situations. With his build, Iese is thought to have the ability to play tight end, linebacker, or defensive end.

Iese was a standout in the recent Cal State All-Star Game.

We'll have comments from Iese coming soon...
