LoVett Receiving Early Interest

You won't see too many high school freshmen with the talent of 5-foot-10, 150-pound Burbank (Calif.) Providence point guard Marcus LoVett, Jr.

The 2015 prospect is very good as both a shooter and a scorer, using his quickness and handles to be able to create his own shot almost whenever he wants. LoVett is a scoring point guard but does possess good vision and you'll see him make several very nice passes each time out.

LoVett can already confidently knock down shots from both midrange and three, which is a rare skill for a kid his age. He also gives respectable effort on the defensive end and is usually good for a handful of steals each game.

There's no doubt that LoVett's current status as an elite level prospect is the result of a lot of hard work.

"I've been working hard in the gym on my game," LoVett said. "I'm trying to be a leader out there on the court, scoring and trying to be an all-around good player. I'm working on my defense and trying to get open without the ball."

U.C. Irvine has already offered LoVett, but he said he's also receiving interest from USC, Arizona, Washington, UCLA and Oregon State.

Some kids want to get their recruitments over as soon as possible but LoVett says that recruiting is not his main concern right now.

"I've watched a few (college) games but to be honest I'm not really worried about that right now," he said. "I've still got three years of high school left.

"I enjoy the recruiting process but right now it doesn't really matter to me. I'm just going to let everything develop."
