Goforth Picks the Bruins

After first committing to Arizona State along with four of his Long Beach Poly teammates, Randall Goforth has verbally committed to UCLA...

Long Beach Poly (CA) athlete Randall Goforth announced today that he will be playing college ball at UCLA.

Goforth, who originally committed to Arizona State last March, opened up his recruitment after the firing of former head coach Dennis Erickson's staff. When area recruiter Steve Broussard left the Sun Devils to join the Bruins' staff and Jim Mora was named new head coach, UCLA was definitely on his radar.

Goforth, who was one of five Poly players to commit to Arizona State, also took an official visit to Washington. However, in the end, his relationship with the coaches at UCLA, especially with Mora, won him over.

"I was talking to UCLA from the beginning, but we weren't really about each other. I got interested when Jim Mora became the head coach. He was really excited when I told him I was committing. He said he had been sitting there nervous waiting for my call," he laughed.

Goforth is a talented recruit who will be able to showcase his skills on both sides of the ball next year. "The coaches see me at corner, but they want me as a slot receiver, too. I like that they want me playing on both sides," he said. It's also likely that Goforth will see playing time during his freshman season.

Though the decision was a tough one (best friend Richard Smith is sticking with his ASU commitment) Goforth knows he made the right choice in choosing the Bruins.

"When I went on my visit, I fell in love with the campus and with the coaching staff. I knew a lot of players up there and I felt that it was the best atmosphere for me and just where I should play," said Goforth.
