San Diego RB Lands UCLA Offer

One of the top running backs in the West region next fall will be San Diego (Calif.) Madison's Pierre Cormier. The athlete picked up his second scholarship offer on Friday and after watching film on the talented ball carrier, it's surprising he doesn't have several more...

Pierre Cormier had a very solid junior season rushing for 1,471 yards and 20 touchdowns while averaging over eight yards a carry. Cormier is a speed back who isn't afraid to run between the tackles. He can bounce it outside and take it the distance but can also run with power and knows how to finish his runs.

He has excellent balance and vision and is able to make his cuts in the open field while maintaining top end speed. That first guy through never makes the tackle on Cormier and his ability to make you miss is about as good as you'll see.

"Oregon State just offered me on Friday, that's my second offer," Cormier said. "UCLA was the first school to offer me and to be honest, those are the only two schools I'm hearing from right now. As far as I know, I haven't gotten any letters or calls from any other school, not even San Diego State but I'm not worried about it.

"It's still really early for me and I'm just being patient and looking forward to going through the recruiting process. I don't plan to make an early commitment and right now, I'm just sitting back and seeing who else plans to recruit me. Hopefully things pick up for me and I'll have some more options to consider."

While Cormier said he's wide open and will consider every school that recruits him, he did say one school is standing out right now.

"I really like UCLA a lot," Cormier said. "I'm going there next weekend for Junior Day and I'm looking forward to that. I've never been there before but I really like the coaches a lot, I like the football program and I've heard nothing but great things about the campus and area.

"I'll probably do some camps this summer but right now, the only one I know I'm doing is the Fresno State team camp. Our whole team goes to that one but I'm not sure what other visits I'll take. It depends on who else wants to recruit me. I'll just play that by ear, like I said, I want to see who else is interested before I commit to taking a visit somewhere."
