Hawkins Winds Down Cali Tour

Rancho Cucamonga (Calif.) cornerback Chris Hawkins (6-0, 170), has completed his early tour of the four California Pac-12 schools.

Hawkins was at USC's Junior Day two weeks ago, at California last week for the Bears' Junior Day with an unofficial trip to Stanford the next day and this past weekend, he was in Westwood for UCLA's Junior Day.

"UCLA was real fun, I got to meet all the coaches and Coach (Jim) Mora and see the facilities," said Hawkins.

In fact, it was the time with Mora that stood out to Hawkins, and was different from his previous three visits.

"There was more talking with the head coach than any Junior Day, and a lot more interaction with him than at any school," said Hawkins. "He went around with us and showed us the school and the facilities. I liked that. And we talked a lot about him being a defensive backs coach and I liked that a lot. It's good to have a head coach who's a very DB-minded guy."

Hawkins also spent time meeting with defensive backs coach Demetrice Martin, who also recruits the Inland Empire.

"Coach Martin was very nice and he's got a lot of energy," said Hawkins. "He showed us a power point and film and talked about UCLA and why he likes it there. You could tell gets very hands-on when he coaches."

Hawkins said that the Bruins made a big impression on him.

"They're in my top schools for sure," said Hawkins. "I wanted to get a feel for the campus and the team. I don't have a certain spot for them because I'm wide open and considering a bunch of schools. But that Junior Day and Cal's Junior Day were probably a tie for the best experience."

Hawkins said he may head back up to the Bay Area this weekend for Stanford's Junior Day and he's possibly heading to the desert to visit the two Arizona schools.

"Both the Arizona schools have invited me to their Junior Days and that's not a far trip so I may go out there and my dad and I are talking about maybe making the trip up to Stanford this weekend," said Hawkins.

Hawkins had hoped to announce in August, but as his recruitment continues to trend upwards, more offers are coming his way and causing him to slow things down.

"I am still thinking about announcing in August, but it might change because I want to take some trips to the East Coast," said Hawkins.

On Friday, Hawkins added a few more big offers, from two SEC schools.

"Coach (Brian) White from Florida offered me on Friday and that's one of the top tier SEC schools. I'm supposed to talk to Coach (Will) Muschamp on Monday," said Hawkins. "And Texas A&M also offered me on Friday."
