Babiash Enjoys UCLA Junior Day

We heard there was a chance that Poway (Calif.) defensive back Derek Babiash could potentially pick up a scholarship offer from UCLA at the Bruins Junior Day on Sunday. Although he didn't receive the offer, the corner said he still had a very nice time in Westwood...

"The visit went well, I like UCLA a lot," Babiash said. "I didn't get offered but it's cool, I'm staying patient and coach Tuiasosopo told me to stay on the lookout for them and keep them high on my list. This was my first time ever visiting the campus before and it was incredible, just a beautiful place. It's a big campus but I still liked how everything seemed close enough to walk to wherever you wanted to go.

"I think what stood out the most was the entire coaching staff. They talked about their philosophy on winning and building a program. They want toughness and high character guys. They were also very positive and upbeat and are very confident that they can build a winner and I liked that."

Babiash said he also enjoyed spending some one on one time with DB coach Demetrice Martin.

"We broke up by position and he talked with all the defensive backs that were there," Babiash said. "He seems like a great guy and a great coach and we clicked well. I'm excited to get to know him better and talking to him more in the future."

Oregon State remains the lone offer for Babiash at this time. That list should expand as more schools view his tape. He's a very talented cover corner with great size and playmaking ability.
