NLA 7on7 Recruiting: Part 3

We have more news and notes from the New Level Athletics Elite 7on7 event in Las Vegas this last weekend...

-Rancho Cucamonga (Calif.) four-star cornerback Chris Hawkins nearly committed a couple of weeks ago, but when USC made a late offer, he decided to hold off. His father, Armond, said after the NLA Elite 7on7, that Hawkins would be announcing his decision this coming Sunday following the Los Angeles Nike Football Training Camp.

-Lakewood (Calif.) receiver X'avier Shepard has three offers, from UCLA, Oregon State and Colorado and schools like Arizona, Arizona State, Cal and Washington, which have all signed Lakewood players in the past few years, are showing interest in Shepard.

-La Jolla (Calif.) Country Day offensive tackle Jordan Poland is a unique case. The mammoth offensive lineman wasn't participating in the event, he was there to see some friends participating. But Poland, who has a number of offers, said that UCLA, Boise State, Arizona and Arizona State are some of the offers that are standing out to him. USC hasn't offered but is staying in regular contact with him. Poland was an initial member of the Scout 100 for the 2013 class before moving to California from Arizona and reclassifying to the 2014 class. He's in double digit offers with nearly two years until he can sign.

-Long Beach (Calif.) Poly safety David Price has one offer, from SMU. Price was offered by then-SMU line coach Adrian Klemm, who is now at UCLA. Price said his top five is USC, UCLA, Oregon, California and Miami. Arizona State is showing a lot of interest in Price too, having signed four teammates in February.

-Rancho Cucamonga (Calif.) linebacker Viliami Latu has offers from Fresno State, Boise State, Hawaii and San Diego State. He visited San Diego State earlier this week with his twin brother, Alani, and the two say they will be a package deal in college. Latu is planning to visit USC, UCLA, BYU and Utah this spring, unofficially. Latu thinks that BYU could be close to offering.

-Duarte (Calif.) linebacker Denzel Talifero has an early offer from SMU but is starting to hear from more Pac-12 schools like Colorado and UCLA as well as Oregon State. Talifero said all those schools will be coming by in the spring.

-Rancho Cucamonga (Calif.) safety Tahaan Goodman, who has offers from coast-to-coast but said he's in no rush to make a decision. Goodman said some of the schools recruiting him the hardest are Hawaii, Washington State, UCLA and Washington, but said he's no where near having a top five and is wide open, considering each school that has offered him. Goodman said he'd like to visit some of the non-Western schools unofficially during the spring.

-Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco cornerback Arlindis Hinton had a big day on Sunday and while he's still waiting for his first offer, a number of schools are showing interest, such as Utah, Colorado, Duke, Fresno State, Arizona State. Duke and UCLA are Hinton's two favorite schools and he has a 4.3 GPA. He's planning to camp at Colorado, Utah, USC and UCLA.

-Chino Hills (Calif.) receiver Jack Austin was one of the newcomers to the scene this weekend, having a great showing at the 7on7. Austin helped I.E. Elite to the semifinals in the tournament. He has an offer from Boise State while getting interest from Oregon, Nebraska and Idaho. Austin said that Oregon is his dream school.

-Tempe (Ariz.) Marcos De Niza safety Priest Willis has nearly 30 offers, and some like him as a cornerback and some like him as a safety with the occasional school liking him as a linebacker. The five-star said he's completely wide open and will start focusing on some schools after the spring. Willis has been to a handful of Arizona State's spring practices and plans to visit Arizona for some of theirs. He's take unofficials already to Arizona State, USC and UCLA and wants to hit up some SEC schools in the spring.

-Ottawa receiver Jaylin Granderson, a 2014 prospect, has interest from Rutgers, Buffalo and UCLA and will be visiting UCLA unofficially this week. Granderson is close friends with UCLA signee Eli Ankou, having worked out with him for years in Canada.

-St. Peters (Canada) receiver Tyrone Pierre, a 2014 prospect, will also be visiting UCLA this week unofficially. Pierre likes UCLA, USC, LSU, Oklahoma State and Texas. Pierre also worked out with Ankou. Oklahoma State is Pierre's favorite school. He's planning to camp at Pittsburgh, Rutgers, Michigan and Michigan State.

-Upland (Calif.) cornerback Delvin Batiste is recovered from a hip fracture that cost him his junior year, but he's hoping that with teammate Joe Mathis getting recruited from all over the country, that some schools come on in. Batiste is interested in a number of schools but likes a number of Pac-12 schools, especially Colorado, where three teammates signed last month.
