Coveted Receiver Checks Out UCLA

One of UCLA's big wideout targets, Long Beach Jordan (Calif.) High's John Ross, visited UCLA on Tuesday and said he was impressed with what he saw from the Bruins...

John Ross is easily among the top receivers in the region. He had a good showing at the IMG/Madden 7 on 7 tournament in Redondo last weekend and has a nice combination of size, speed and athleticism.

"This was my first practice of the spring and I liked it a lot," Ross said. "I saw them play last year and the tempo was a lot different. There was a lot of intensity and everyone was fired up. It was really cool to be there and experience a college level practice to see what the next level will be like.

"I was watching the receivers pretty closely and they don't have a lot of depth there right now. Most of the incoming freshmen aren't enrolled yet and I know when they get there, they'll add some depth to the position but right now, they don't have a lot of body's."

Ross said he also enjoyed talking with the coaches before and after practice.

"I talked to just about everyone there," Ross said. "I talked a lot with Coach Yarber, the receiver coach and he's a good guy. UCLA is definitely high on my list right now but I don't want to make a decision yet, I want to take my time and play things out.

"I've gotten calls this week from California, Purdue and Oregon State. Purdue offered and Oregon State offered a while ago. Cal hasn't offered yet but I hope they do. I have a lot of interest in them and I know what a great school it is. I want to check out a few more schools but I'm not sure where yet."
