Bruins Keeping Tabs on Smith

The Elk Grove (Calif.) Cosumnes Oaks defensive tackle, Sam Smith, thinks UCLA is close to offering...

Elk Grove (Calif.) Cosumnes Oaks defensive lineman Sam Smith (6-4, 278), has five offers from all over the West.

"I've got offers from Washington State, Utah State, Nevada, Fresno State and Colorado State," said Smith.

Several other programs have stopped by Cosumnes Oaks during the evaluation period to check out Smith.

"All those schools have come by plus Oregon, Cal, UCLA and a bunch of other schools," said Smith.

Smith said that he's planning to camp at USC's Lineman Camp next month and the Trojans have been pretty active in recruiting him.

"Coach (Clay) Helton and Coach (Ed) Orgeron have been talking with me and came by the school," said Smith.

UCLA has also been involved with him, and they signed his good friend and teammate Marcus Rios in February.

"Coach Angus McClure is recruiting me and I've been down there to check out the school and I think they could be close," said Smith.

In addition, Cal could also be on the brink of offering Smith.

"I went to their Junior Day and Coach (Todd) Howard came by and I think they are going to be close to offering me," said Smith.

Smith said with the five offers and more schools interested, there is no need to make an early decision.

"I've got a lot of time until I have to decide, so I'm wide open right now," said Smith. "I'll go to these camps and then I'll take my trips."

Smith will be at the Oakland Nike Camp on Sunday.
