Allen Visiting UCLA Soon

Dakarai Allen will be visiting UCLA and USC this weekend, and he's holding out hope for a UCLA offer at some point over the summer...

2013 small forward Dakarai Allen is in no hurry to make any decisions about his recruitment, because at this point, he's still not sure what schools will end up offering him.

"I'm not really sure when I'm going to make a decision, because I don't have all the offers that I might want, or might get," Allen said. "I just want to wait, see what I have on the table, before deciding on a time table for my recruitment."

Right now, Allen is hearing the most from San Diego State, Colorado, and Washington State, and says that Oregon is starting to get involved, although the Ducks have not offered yet.

Although he trimmed his list to ten recently, he may look to open that up a little more again soon.

"UNLV just got that transfer from Connecticut (Roscoe Smith), so I'm not sure if they're still interested," Allen said. "If they're not, I might take a look at adding more schools to my list."

UCLA is prominent on Allen's list, despite not having offered him yet. Allen will be visiting UCLA and USC both unofficially this weekend, while he's in town for the Pangos All American Camp in Long Beach.

"I talk to (UCLA Assistant) Coach Matthews all the time," Allen said. "We have a great relationship, so I'm really just waiting for that offer. UCLA would be a dream offer."

Allen, who's an athletic wing, doesn't have a polished offensive game yet, and the message he's heard from Matthews is that he'll need to focus on that to earn an offer.

"Coach Matthews, all he really tells me that they want me to do is shoot more," Allen said. "I need to start looking for my shot more. I don't normally hunt for shots during games, so I need to work on that."

In selecting a school, location isn't a huge priority for Allen, but he would like to find a place where he'll be able to play.

"A big thing for me will be being able to play as a freshman," Allen said. "Not necessarily starting, but I want to be on a team where I can get some minutes."

In terms of visits, outside of the L.A. schools, Allen has tentative plans for unofficial visits to San Diego State and UNLV in the coming months, but other than that, he hasn't decided on any visits for the summer. His summer schedule is beginning to fill out, with plans to be in Philadelphia for a Reebok Tournament, and then he'll be going to Las Vegas for the Fab 48.

Currently, Allen reports a 3.0 GPA.
