Hutchings Willing to Wait

The Concord (Calif.) De La Salle linebacker, Michael Hutchings, is now in no rush to make a decision and he will likely visit UCLA unofficially this summer...

Concord (Calif.) De La Salle linebacker Michael Hutchings (6-1, 210), felt like a decision could be coming soon, but an unofficial visit to Washington over the weekend had the Scout Top 50 ‘backer, wanting to slow things down.

"The visit to Washington opened my mind and I think I'm going to wait and take some more unofficials now," said Hutchings. "I might take some official visits too, but I don't think I'll take all five. But I might take a few more unofficials."

Hutchings said he definitely plans to visit nearby California, as well as a trip to Los Angeles to see USC and UCLA.

"I definitely want to visit both L.A. schools again, and I'll definitely be at Cal again," said Hutchings. "And I'm planning to visit Oregon in July, I'm just trying to work it out around The Opening."

The visit to Washington over the weekend, his first time in Seattle, left a big impression on him.

"It was my first time there and I loved it," said Hutchings. "It was definitely different than what I expected. We went over the new facilities and they really have a lot of stuff coming for the class of 2013. They have the new stadium, new facilities, dorms, everything is really set up good for the class of 2013."

Hutchings, who's played linebacker for the Spartans the past two seasons, said the Husky staff looks at him as a potential member of the secondary.

"I spent a lot of time talking with Coach (Justin) Wilcox, and he said they're recruiting me as a strong safety or as more of a rover," said Hutchings. "They like my versatility and how I could play multiple positions."

Hutchings also spent a little time with Tosh Lupoi, a former Spartan player himself, as well as head coach Steve Sarkisian.

"I met Coach Sark and we discussed the recruiting process and he said how he and Coach (Lane) Kiffin are good friends and he's going to recruit me just as hard," said Hutchings. "And we were with Coach Tosh for a while and had a good time talking with him."

With Hutchings hoping to make an early decision, and now those plans changing, he's opened up his entire timeframe.

"There is no time table now, it's all up in the air," said Hutchings. "The process is about me finding the best school and I'm on my own time table now. I don't think I'll be as aggressive in trying to make a decision. I think I'll wait now."

Hutchings was selected to The Opening in July in Beaverton, and that's his next camp he's participating in, after doing the SoCal and Oakland NFTC's.
