Wright Will Camp at UCLA

The Santa Rosa (Calif.) Cardinal Newman linebacker, Philip Wright, plans to camp at UCLA this month...

Santa Rosa (Calif.) Cardinal Newman linebacker Philip Wright (6-1, 227), was one of the standout performers at the Oakland NFTC last month and on Wednesday, he got some good news, in the form of his first offer, from Arizona.

"It was pretty cool to get that offer," said Wright. "I had made a list at the end of my freshman year of school on the places that I wanted to go to play football and they were first on my list."

Wright said he wasn't really expecting the offer at this point, and it caught him off guard.

"Coach (Tony) Gibson offered me as an inside linebacker," said Wright. "I was pretty surprised. At first they had said to come to their camp, but then my head coach called me from my high school and said they had offered. It happened pretty quick. I'm probably going to go down for an unofficial visit."

And Wright is hopeful this is just the first of many offers.

"I think a lot of schools could be next," said Wright. "San Diego State keeps talking to me, and then Nevada and then Boise State have been a lot too."

Wright went to Cal's camp and will camp at San Diego State and also plans to camp at Boise State, Utah and UCLA.

"Cal told me that they had their first set of offers out for linebackers, but that I'm in their next group," said Wright. "Utah came by during the spring and so did San Diego State, Boise State, Air Force and Nevada and then a bunch of Ivy League schools."

Wright said the two teams he'd like to get offers from were Boise State and UCLA.

"Ever since I was little, I liked both UCLA and Boise State," said Wright.

Academically, Wright has a 3.0 GPA.
