Four Stand Out for Pippins

El Cerrito (Calif.) athlete Marcellus Pippins has seen his stock rise in the last month with a flurry of scholarship offers. Pippins said four schools stand out right now...

Marcellus Pippins is a two-way standout who is being recruited primarily as a cornerback. He's also a talented basketball player but will likely focus on football at the next level.

"My most recent scholarship offer is from Northern Arizona," Pippins said. "UCLA offered last week and I also have offers from San Diego State, Utah, Utah State, Washington State, UNLV and Fresno State.

"Right now, I have a top four of Utah, Washington State, San Diego State and UCLA. I'm not going to be able to do any unofficial visits or camps this summer because I just want to focus on my team. We're playing in a lot of 7 on 7 events so I'm going to take all my official visits and make my decision late in the year."

Pippins broke down what he liked about each of his four favorites.

"I kind of want to leave home, leave the state actually so Utah and Washington State stand out. I've heard good things about both of those two schools, they're college towns in a strong conference.

"With San Diego State, my older brother wanted to go there but ended up at City College of San Francisco. When he looked in to the school, it sounded like a great place. UCLA is a great academic school, very prestigious. I went to a game a couple of years ago and I think the new coaching staff is going to really turn things around."
