Kelly Offered After UCLA Camp

Los Angeles (Calif.) Salesian athlete Jermaine Kelly was not only the top defensive back at the UCLA Elite Camp on Friday, he was among the top overall prospects, regardless of position, and he garnered a UCLA scholarship offer...

Jermaine Kelly is a long, lean corner, who looks about 6-1, 175 pounds. He has long arms, very quick feet and a big upside. You don't see a lot of tall corners with the kind of athleticism that Kelly has but he showed he should definitely be mentioned among the top corners in the region.

The UCLA coaching staff spent a lot of time with Kelly and the athlete is hopeful an offer could be close.

"I loved it here and learned a lot from Coach Martin," Kelly said. "I learned a lot of new coverage's and really enjoyed the competition. UCLA is a school I really like a lot and if they were to offer, I would most likely jump on it.

"I mean, I would need to talk with my mom about it first of course but I really like UCLA a lot and I don't think my mom would mind having me so close to home. Plus UCLA has great academics, and I like Coach Mora a lot. I can tell he's making some changes here and I see UCLA competing for championships real soon."

Kelly currently has offers from Arizona, Arizona State, Hawaii, Minnesota and Utah.

"I think Washington is real close and I'm going to their camp next week," Kelly said. "I camped at USC last week and did well and they want me to come back for the Rising Stars Camp.

"I know they have limited spots available so I'm not sure what will happen there. I do have a lot of interest for sure. Right now, UCLA, USC and Washington are my top three schools. Even If I make an early commitment, I still want to take my official visits and go through the process but those three stand out right now."

Updated- 6/24/12: Kelly was offered by UCLA the day after the Bruins camp.

"My dad called Coach Martin and he told my dad I had an offer," Kelly said. "Everything is happening so fast right now but my whole family is very excited. We're definitely in discussion about making an early commitment to UCLA but we just want to talk about it first to make sure we're not making any emotional decisions.

"My family wants me close to home and I love everything about UCLA as well. I'm still going to camp with Washington this week and then we'll sit down and figure out if I should make an early decision or not."
