King Camps with Bruins

The Tennessee punter, Jonathan King, left an impression on the Bruin coaches...

Knoxville (Tenn.) Farragut punter Jonathan King is one of the top punters in the Southeast in this class, and feels like an offer could be close.

Last week, King camped at UCLA and got a chance to show off his leg for the Bruin coaches, who are looking to sign a punter in this class.

"I worked out at UCLA, and they definitely said they needed a punter," said King. "I went over there and visited the campus, and it's extremely beautiful and a great school. The coaching staff seemed very cool and connected, and I felt very comfortable there."

While King wasn't offered, he had a good conversation with special teams coach Jeff Ulbrich.

"Coach Ulbrich is an easy guy to talk to, with a lot of knowledge of the game and being in the NFL for 10 years," said King.

King said that UCLA likes him as a punter, and the majority of interest from schools has been as a punter.

"It's coming from a little bit of both but lately its been focused more on punting, and I feel that's where my strength is," said King. "As far as being ready for college, punting is probably better."

King said he's also hearing from a number of SEC schools, including Tennessee, South Carolina, Kentucky and Alabama.

"I'm definitely looking for the best opportunity and I'm extremely open minded," said King. "I don't have any offers, so I'm looking for the best fit."

Academically, he has a 3.0 and scored a 24 on the ACT.
