Two Incoming Frosh to Grayshirt

With players leaving the program earlier this month, and two freshmen reportedly grayshirting, UCLA looks like it will be at the NCAA's 85-scholarship limit...

Two of the incoming freshmen, defensive lineman Eli Ankou and offensive lineman Lacy Westbrook, are not enrolled in the new summer session like the rest of the freshman class, according to UCLA.

We've heard the intention is for Ankou and Westbrook to grayshirt, which means they would enroll in spring quarter of the 2012-2013 school year. In doing so, they won't officially count against the NCAA limit of 85 scholarships until they are actually enrolled.

UCLA needed to get down to the limit by the time the incoming freshman class enrolled for the summer session.

We've heard that sophomore defensive end Wesley Flowers will not return to the program. Flowers had been released after last season but reinstated for spring practice. He, subsenquently has decided to leave.

Earlier this month we learned that defensive back Alex Mascarenas, safety Jared Koster and offensive lineman Wade Yandall were leaving the program. Mascarenas and Yandall were leaving because of concussion issues and Koster decided to transfer.

Conor McDermott, the offensive line prospect who had committed to UCLA as part of the 2011 class but never enrolled, is now enrolled in the summer session and on scholarship.

With these developments, UCLA is under the 85-scholarship limit, actually appearing to be at 85.
