Chris Miles, SR C/PF, Provo (Utah) Timpview, can play. He's about 6-11 and tips the scales at 230. He's got the kind of physical tools and body that coaches crave. This is a big week for him. Though he doesn't really care about rankings, ratings or things off the court, Miles has a chance to leave an impression on people.
"I just want to prove that I can play against good players. I feel like I can play against better competition."
Like other kids here, folks back home gave him sound advice before he left for Indy. "Shoot if you're open."
Schools like Brigham Young, Gonzaga, Utah, Utah State and UCLA are currently recruiting him. All of the Utah-based schools have offered. Right now, Miles says each school wants him to make an official visit.
Like a lot of Mormons, Miles has plans for a mission. He said that his ideal situation would be to play his first year, take two years and go on his mission, maybe redshirt a year and then finish out his college career. But, nothings set in stone except for the mission. He's going to take it and says the schools recruiting him have absolutely no issue with it.
"I don't want to go to a party school. [I'll go anywhere] as long as the schools understand about my mission."
Miles played at the NBA Camp two weeks ago. Though he's not as well traveled as some of his peers, he did identify who he thought was tops in the class. "Dwight Howard. He was on my team so I didn't have to play against him."
