Hollins Is "100% Solid" to UCLA

The Texas linebacker and UCLA commit, Deon Hollins, is excited about his Bruin future and will be visiting Westwood later this month...

When Missouri City (Texas) Marshall linebacker Deon Hollins committed to UCLA, it came as somewhat of a surprise, considering he'd never even been to Westwood.

But Hollins couldn't be happier with his choice of UCLA, and he's looking forward to taking an unofficial visit to Los Angeles this month.

"I'm going out there in two weeks for an unofficial visit, and I'm really excited about it," said Hollins. "I don't think I'll take any trips anywhere, and I'm 100% solid to the Bruins."

Hollins said a number of things factored into this decision to choose UCLA.

"The 3-4 defense and 80 years of NFL experience on that staff, plus the academics, you put it all together and it's unbelievable at UCLA," said Hollins.

The coaching staff played a big role too.

"Coach (Demetrice) Martin is who is recruiting me and we talk all the time, our relationship is excellent," said Hollins. "My relationship with him and Coach (Jeff) Ulbrich is big and without a doubt a big reason. Coach Ulbrich is like a father figure to me. And Coach (Jim) Mora was a pretty big factor, especially being a defensive minded coach."

Hollins was the lone UCLA commit at The Opening over the weekend, but one of a number of Texas natives and commits to the Pac-12.

"The Opening has been excellent, just getting the chance of competing against the top athletes in the country," said Hollins. "I'm out here representing Texas and the Pac-12."

Hollins, who's not far from Houston, said he's hoping to see the Bruins in action next month.

"We have a scrimmage the night of the Rice game, but I'm going to come, if even for the end, to see them play," said Hollins.
