Willis Narrows His List -- A Bit

You know your college list is a big one when you ‘narrow' it down to a final 15 but that's what Tempe (Ariz.) Marcos De Niza defensive back Priest Willis did over the weekend...

Priest Willis is currently rated the top cornerback in the West region and has the kind of size and speed college coaches drool over. At The Opening in Oregon, Willis was noticeably slimmer from a few months ago and despite playing with a sore back, showed excellent closing speed breaking on the ball.

"The whole experience at The Opening was a great one for me," Willis said. "Having the opportunity to meet some of these guys that you read about was real cool. It was fun to come out here and compete against them and just to see how athletic some of these guys are is a great experience for me and I'm thankful to NIKE for putting this event on."

On the recruiting front, Willis made his first cut of the year and will make another one early in the fall.

"The 15 schools I'm currently looking at, in no order are UCLA, USC, Nebraska, LSU, Michigan, Virginia, Washington, Notre Dame, Florida, Florida State, California, Arizona State, Arizona, Oklahoma, Oregon and Utah," Willis said.

"I'm going to take unofficial visits to all the Florida schools plus LSU later in the summer and I have official trips set with LSU, Nebraska and Notre Dame right now. LSU will be (Nov. 3) when they play Alabama, Nebraska is (Oct. 27) for the Michigan game and Notre Dame is (Sept. 22) when they play Michigan. For those last two, I really have no idea right now, I'm going to sit down with my family and we'll figure that out later."

The next cut for Willis will be early in the season next fall.

"Week two of the season we play Scottsdale (Ariz.) Chaparral and I'm going to try and cut it down to 10 by then," Willis said. "It would be great and I would be blessed if I can speed the process up enough to announce at the Under Armour Game but if I don't know by then, I'll continue to look at my options.

"Right now, I'm keeping an open mind to everyone and just enjoying going through the process. I've already seen the Arizona schools and UCLA and USC a lot and could probably give my own campus tour to someone. So I won't officially visit those schools but I'm definitely interested. I'm just looking to see where I'll be most comfortable and where I can come in and make an early impact."
