Pleasanton (Calif.) Foothill linebacker Griffith Gates (6-2.5, 236), has been diligently hitting the camp circuit this spring and summer, waiting for his first FBS offer.

Gates, who has an offer from Brown, has either camped with or talked regularly with UCLA, San Jose State, Air Force, Cal Poly and Yale, in addition to Brown.

"Brown offered me as an athlete, they think I could play either fullback, tight end or linebacker," said Gates. "Cal Poly likes me as a defensive end, UCLA as an outside linebacker and Yale as a linebacker."

San Diego State could also be close to offering Gates, and many schools have hinted that his senior year could go a long way to landing an offer.

"San Diego State told me I was really close to an offer and UCLA told me that they wanted to watch senior tape and Washington said the same thing," said Gates. "Yale and Cal Poly have pretty much said the same too."

Gates camped at UCLA San Diego State, Harvard, Yale, Brown, Washington and Cal Poly, doing his part to get out there.

"There are definitely a few schools that if they offered me right now, I think I'd commit," said Gates.

Academically, Gates is solid, with a 4.2 GPA and an 1800 on the SAT.
