Johnson Has Co-Leaders

It has been a disappointing spring/summer for corner Johnny Johnson as a shoulder injury prevented him from competing at The Opening and GridIron Kings. When healthy, Johnson is a big time talent who combines great feet and quickness with toughness and physicality.

On the recruiting front, Johnson has made some changes to the top of his list. At the Oakland NIKE Camp in May, the athlete listed USC and California as his top two but has made some changes to his leader board.

"UCLA and Stanford are my top two right now," Johnson said. "With UCLA, I really like the new coaching staff a lot. I was at the USC game last year where they got blown out and really didn't have much interest in them at the time.

"I always liked the school, it's a great University but I just wasn't sure about the football program. Now I'm seeing some changes with the direction the team is going and I like it. I talk to Coach Martin all the time and coach Mora as well and I really like both guys a lot."

As for Stanford, the Cardinal have always been on Johnson's short list.

"I went to their Junior Day in June and loved it there," Johnson said. "They are a big time program on the West Coast and have a lot to offer on and off the field. I'm looking to compete early and Stanford can offer that opportunity.

"Academically, Stanford is a great school and has a great reputation. I still have some things to do academically to get accepted there but I have no doubt I'll be able to fulfill those requirements."

Johnson said he wants to take some official visits before making his decision.

"My official visits will be to UCLA, Notre Dame, Oklahoma and Washington," Johnson said. "That last spot is open right now. I don't have any trip dates yet but I want to take them during the season if I can.

"As for when I'll make my decision, I don't have a timeframe. As soon as I know where I want to go, that's when I'll commit, it could happen any time. I'll still take my visits though, even if I commit early, that's something I really want to do."
